Entry 01: INTRODUCTION

"These Days"

One of these days the ground will drop out from beneath your feet
One of these days your heart will stop and play its final beat
One of these days the clocks will stop and time won't mean a thing
One of these days their bombs will drop and silence everything

But it's alright
Yeah it's alright
I said it's alright

Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet not yet

One of these days
I bet your heart'll be broken
I bet your pride'll be stolen
I bet I bet I bet I bet
One of these days
One of these days

One of these days your eyes will close and pain will disappear
One of these days you will forget to hope and learn to fear

But it's alright
Yeah it's alright
I said it's alright

Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet not yet

One of these days
I bet your heart'll be broken
I bet your pride'll be stolen
I bet I bet I bet I bet
One of these days
One of these days

But it's alright
Yeah it's alright
I said it's alright
Yeah it's alright

Don't say it's alright
Don't say it's alright
Don't say it's alright

One of these days your heart will stop and play its final beat
But it's alright

Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet not yet

One of these days
I bet your heart will be broken
I bet your pride will be stolen
I bet I bet I bet I bet

One of these days
One of these days
One of these days

How to put into words all the feelings that this song causes in me? Music sometimes acts as a therapist for most of us, it's like a "translator" of our emotions and feelings. It's possible to find comfort, love, fear, sadness, happiness, closeness and even broken hearts in it, and sometimes Music helps us connect with ourselves, letting go out everything that for some reason we find difficult to express. Therefore, I'm part of the group of people which considers music as something essential to their lives, and necessary to go through different situations.

Regarding this song, I've chosen it because it represents a hard moment of my life: my grandmother's death, who was like a mother for my brother and me. The process was too long, she had been ill for two years. I can say that this period created a deep hole in my soul, a hole that sometimes still hurts.  By then I was sixteen years old, a complicated age in human life and, like all adolescents, I also struggled to express my emotions and to understand them. Unluckily, the situation in my house was very delicate so it was difficult to be able to discharge all that tension, we were all emotionally destroyed, that's when I started to lean on music. Although I had already heard that song several times, I had never paid attention to its lyrics. So that's where I found the words to describe what was truly happening to me... I was denying something impossible to deny."These days" helped me to heal my heart and to accept the loss of one of the most important people in my life.

Even though this song has a negative connotation, with time I could find another meaning behind its lyrics the importance of living each instant as if it were the last, being happy, because one of these days our hearts will stop beating

  1. Hi Juli! I found myelf reflected in your words! I had the same feelings when my grandma passed away and this writing of yours reached my heart. It is hard to see the bright side after those moments but you could find it and I think we all must do the same!

  3. Juli, there are always songs that represent different moments of our lives, mainly those which have caused us pain. I really agree with you as regards the message behind the lyrics. These lines invite us to reflect on each step we take in life and encorage us to keep on our path. No matter the struggles we have to face, they should always be considered as "knowledge and experience".
It was nice to read your posts. I really enjoyed me stay in your blog. Good luck!

  4. Hi Juli! I feel you, my friend, and I also think we have all gone through the loss of a dearly relative of us and I'm sure it has marked our lives in one way or another. Facing death in such a close way changes our entire life, for sure. But it's great to find relief and tranquility within the lyrics of a song during such hard times.
I'm glad you could find support and calm through this song.
It was nice to read you! See you around friend.

  5. As someone who has suffered the loss of a dear one before, and even recently once again lost a relative I cared so much about... I can tell how you probably felt. However, isn't it beautiful how we can link songs or movies to people we love? And then, listening to that song again, or watching that movie again... we can relive all sorts of memories about that person. I think that's why we treasure them so much.
This song gives me mixed feelings, as if it's someone talking to a friend trying to cheer them up, and contradicting every word... yet pushing through in the end. It makes you think exactly what you said; we have to live every day as the last, but full of hope that things will be alright in the end. Whether our 'heart has been broken' or 'not yet', we have to live every day to our best!
So, don't give up, Juli! You're not alone, and I know things will be alright once again!

  6. Hi July! Sorry for your loss . When a relative passed away it's a very difficult moment that nobody wants to face. I consider that every human being has a mission on the earth. I think that your grandma will be always with you ,in your heart and in every single moment in which you need strength to face hard times. She will be your hope and light when you see darkness everywhere.
    See you

Entry 00: Let's start

My name is Julieta Dattoli and I'm 23 years old. This is my fourth and hopefully last year at the Teaching Training College. Before choosing this profession I've been in other places searching MY definite place. A few words Learning is a process which is difficult to define under one perspective ... for some, learning is just acquiring knowledge, for me learning is also a journey, in which people have to be guided and accompanied; it is an experience with obstacles, descents and ascents; a ride that sometimes requires pedalling hard and many others only to be carried away by the inertia itself.  I'm sure of something, learning is a path in which a person always has to leave his/her mark. It is a journey and, like any journey, it involves a challenge: "let yourself be surprised". This year I've got surprised by this new proposal: the production of my own blog.

Entry 04: Performatives and Constantives

Brief summary: According to J.L. Austin, there are different types of statements. Those that describe and those that command. On the one hand, "constatives" are those utterances which describe something true or false; classifying them will depend on the reality assessment of the message's receptor. On the other hand, those statements that command, are called "performatives" which denote an action, this means that they inspire actions in people. As a consequence, performative utterances change the social reality they are describing. Also, I have to mention that there are words that bring about actions and words that themselves are actions; the last ones are defined as "speech acts" . A successful performative statement has to be: - Authoritative - Understood. - Clear - Able to be executed Source: Colleen Glenney Boggs (2013). Speech acts: Constative and performative. ENTRY 11: Writing strategies | HEDGING and BOOSTING.

VIDEO 1: THE IMPORTANCE OF HEDGING Publishing a research should be thought of as making a contribution to the ongoing dialogue in your field or discipline. The focus of all research is problem-solving and collaboration and teamwork often expedite this process. The most useful contributions are made in such a way where the primary writer or researchers will receive credit for his or her unique and original contribution but will also leave room for others to add to the dialogue to build off points made earlier to refine them and reinterpret them. One way to achieve this is through the effective use of HEDGING. Definition of hedging Lakoff defined it as words whose job it is to make things more or less fuzzy. Words that can make statement less clear or absolute Hyland wrote that Hedging is the expression of tentativeness and possibility in language use. It represents an absence of certainty and is used to describe an linguistic item or strategy employed to indicate either a lack of commit...
